The 100th edition of the Madison County Fair is set for Aug. 30, with exhibits being moved into buildings on Sunday, Aug. 27.

Huntsville Police Chief Todd Thomas informed the city council Monday night that Officer Charles “Chuck” Melton has been hired as the new school resource officer for the Huntsville School District.

Sen. Bryan King, R-Green Forest, said Tyson poultry growers in Madison and Carroll counties have been told via telephone that contracts with two to three years remaining on their production contracts will be canceled.

Hundreds of Huntsville residents turned out for the final First Friday held on Polk Square last week. Activities included a pumper truck from the Huntsville Fire Department spraying water on the street creating a cool, splashy environment for kids as well as adults.

The Madison County Library Board held its third-quarter meeting last week at the Madison County Courthouse and handled financial issues, heard reports from library directors, and heard concerns from the Kingston Friends of the Library.

The final First Friday of 2023 will be held on Aug. 4 on Polk Square in downtown Huntsville. The theme for Friday’s event will be Hometown Proud/Back to School.

July and August are usually big months for school enrollment, Huntsville School officials recently agreed. Superintendent Jonathan Warren reported on the end-of-year enrollment numbers during the May Huntsville School Board meeting.

The Huntsville School District is in a better position regarding staffing this school year compared to this time last year, Superintendent Jonathan Warren said after the Huntsville School Board approved a slate of personnel at a special meeting held July 27. 

The following felony cases were resolved in Madison County Circuit Court during the month of July.

The Huntsville Planning Commission had a brief discussion last week about the city possibly giving financial breaks to Madison County when it comes to building permits for the new jail.
