Candra Brasel recently announced her resignation as Superintendent of the Jasper School District effective June 30. Brasel has accepted a position with the Ozarks Unlimited Resources (OUR) Educational Cooperative in Harrison where she will support and coach administrators and oversee mentoring programs.

All students in the Huntsville School District will receive free lunches next year after the district received state approval for its free and reduced lunch numbers.

Arkansas may retain the option for school districts to operate with a four-day week if either of two bills introduced in the House of Representatives on Monday passes.

Arkansas House Bill 1864, seeking to remove the option of having a four-day school week, was introduced by Rep. Wade Andrews (R-Camden) and co-sponsored by Sen. Jane English (R-North Little Rock) on March 19.

A potential partnership to expand parking in an area of Huntsville received attention during the Jan. 7 regular meeting of the Huntsville School Board.

The Huntsville School Board voted unanimously to terminate the employment of Huntsville High School math teacher Josh Hall after a recommendation from Interim Superintendent Bryan Law.

The original pool of candidates was 19 applications, which was narrowed down to the four who were interviewed in person. Part of the application process required candidates to answer how they fit the board’s five criteria for a superintendent.

Nineteen applicants submitted their name to be the next superintendent for the Huntsville School District. The application period ended the first week of November. 

Huntsville School District has received more positive feedback than complaints after transitioning to a four-day school week in August, giving students and staff a day off on Monday.
