The Madison County Quorum Court voted unanimously on Monday night to request an ordinance containing “ballot language” for a 1 cent sales tax increase for the operation and maintenance of the new county jail and for that ordinance to be ready for a vote at the court’s next regular meeting in August or during a specially-called meeting before then.

A thunderstorm containing high winds swept through northern Madison County early Sunday, toppling trees and causing widespread property damage in Clifty and Forum. Withrow Springs State Park is also temporarily closed as a result of damage. Clifty was without power as of Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service has yet to make a determination as to whether the storm contained any tornadoes.

The Huntsville School District will have a four-day school week next year after the Huntsville School Board approved the change in a 5-1 vote. Board President Whitney Comer voted against the motion and Board Member Natalie Swafford was absent.
