The Madison County Quorum Court tabled discussion of a sales tax to fund the new county jail and sheriff’s office until the July meeting, by which time County Judge Larry Garrett, County Clerk Austin Boatright and Sheriff Ronnie Boyd should have an accurate sense of how much it will cost to operate the jail on a per-bed basis.

The personnel subcommittee of the Madison County Quorum Court met on June 10 in the courthouse courtroom to discuss a new policy proposed by County Clerk Austin Boatright that would phase out employee use of paper time slips and transition instead to electronic timekeeping software implemented by the clerk’s office.

A thunderstorm containing high winds swept through northern Madison County early Sunday, toppling trees and causing widespread property damage in Clifty and Forum.
