Parents of students in the Huntsville School District have until Oct. 1 to get their children immunized or to obtain an exemption, according to district officials. 

Helping Huntsville High School seniors find their way into the workforce or chart a path through college played a part in Stetson Ledbetter being named Educator of the Year for 2024 by students and fellow faculty.

Sixteen Huntsville High School seniors participated in the SkillsUSA National Signing Day event held at the Career and Technical Education Center on May 7.

On April 9, St. Paul High School took 16 students, two teachers, and one parent to FCCLA’s state leadership conference and STAR event competitions in Hot Springs. FCCLA is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for students, in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education. 

Huntsville High School’s SkillsUSA advisor Sherri Plumlee, the high school’s RN, was named state advisor of the year this month at the state convention held in Hot Springs.

Huntsville High School SkillsUSA held its Cruzin’ for Champions Auto Show on Saturday, March 30, at the AT & Georgia Mae Smith Activity Center.

The Huntsville School District will have a four-day school week next year after the Huntsville School Board approved the change in a 5-1 vote. Board President Whitney Comer voted against the motion and Board Member Natalie Swafford was absent.

During a second round of a school calendar survey, Huntsville School District parents and guardians are being asked to complete a paper survey on their top two preferred school calendar choices. Surveys are available at the administration offices through Friday. 

Huntsville School District is asking for input on four calendar options via an online survey available on the district’s website and Facebook page.

Board Policy 2.5 was approved Monday. It does not specify guns or other weapons but Superintendent Jonathan Warren said those who complete the 60 hours of training would be allowed to conceal-carry on campus despite it being illegal for most other people.

The Huntsville School District recently announced its new poverty-level measurement of families who qualify for free or reduced lunch is at 71.35%. While the figure is higher than in previous years, school officials and community members agree that the need has always been there, but now the district has proof.

Officials in the Huntsville and Kingston school districts responded recently to the state report cards released last month. For the most part, schools in both districts held steady from the previous year’s report cards.
