Barbara Joann Gilbert, age 80, of Elkins, passed away Aug. 11, 2022, at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, Ark. 

She was born in Orlinda, Calif., Dec. 30, 1941, to Lillian Edna Boyd Powell and Earl Everette Evans.

Barbara was a homemaker and the glue that held the family together. She loved to grow things, especially raising flowers, exotic birds, chickens and planting gardens. She was also a very good cook; if you came by for a visit she would try to feed you and share a glass of her sweet tea.

Barbara was preceded in death by husband, William Alfred Gilbert of Goshen; one son, Dwight (Bid) Gilbert of Elkins; one grandson, Nathan Osburn of Goshen; son-in-laws, Ronald Fulton and David Whittenburg, both of Elkins; both her parents, Lillian Powell and Earl Evans, both of Huntsville; two sisters, Doris Alderson of Goshen and Janis Harrelson of California; four brothers, Clinton (Pistol) Powell and Gerald Evans, Herman (Jiggs) Evans and Nathan Evans, all of Huntsville.

Barbara is survived by five daughters, Frances Cothren and husband, Edward, of Farmington, Pansy James and husband, Lance, of Goshen, Pearlene Lawson and husband, Randy, of Elkins, Sabra Whittenburg of Elkins, and Mya Fulton of Wesley; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Winford (Winnie) Gregory of Huntsville and Beverly McCloud of Berryville; and one brother, Kenneth (Pud) Powell of Huntsville.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark. Thomas Smith officiated. 

Pallbearers were Corey Gilbert, Jeremy Whittenburg, Jeff Whittenburg, Kasey Srita, Chris Baker and Wesley Hice. 

Honorary pallbearers  were Brandon Gilbert, Chris Pannell and Anthony Greenlee.    

Services were entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
