Huntsville’s fifth-grade pee wee football team recently honored their teammate’s mom, Amanda Cousins, with specially-ordered Hope for Amanda arm sleeves.

Huntsville High School Senior Evan Moore learned an Albert Einstein quote in sixth grade that stuck with him. 

The second half looked a lot different - and better - than the first half of Friday night’s football conference battle between the Huntsville Eagles and the Lincoln Wolves. Both teams incurred more than their fair share of penalties in the first and second quarters, but the Eagles returned to the field after halftime a changed team – energized, inspired and ready to fight. Unfortunately, despite a touchdown scored by Kouper Shepherd in the game’s final 42 seconds, the Eagles were unable to overcome a 29 point deficit, falling 63-34.

The Eagles will face the Lincoln Wolves tonight at Eagle Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Huntsville High School cross country team participated in the Springdale Schools Invitational on Oct. 7 and the Prairie Grove Invitational on Oct. 9.

Huntsville High School senior Kouper Shepherd brings positivity to the field and court. Playing as a wide receiver for the Huntsville Eagles football team and forward and guard for the Huntsville Eagles basketball team, sports keep him busy. In his free time, you can find him hanging out with family and friends. 

The Elkins Elks blasted the Berryville Bobcats Friday night, 62-7, elevating their overall record to 6-0 and their 4A-1 record to 3-0, taking first place in conference standings. Berryville dropped to 2-4 overall, 0-3 in conference and eighth in the standings. The Elks will play Green Forest at home on Oct. 13. Green Forest has a record of 2-5.

The Huntsville Eagles fell to the Gravette Lions, 55-14, Friday  night in front of its 2023 Homecoming audience. As has been the case in almost every contest so far this season, Huntsville constantly turned the ball over on downs or was forced to punt as drives failed to live up to their potential.

Faith Thomas was crowned as the 2023 Homecoming Queen. She was escorted Friday night by her father, Danny Thomas.

Injuries prevented the Huntsville Eagles cross country teams from making much of an impact at the annual Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville on Sept. 30.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, Huntsville’s varsity girls volleyball team lost their home conference match against Shiloh Christian High School, 0-3.

A competitive and persistent spirit keeps Huntsville High School Senior Malia Buchanan at the top of her volleyball game. Standing just under six feet tall, her height aids in her playing middle backer, setter, and outside hitter for the Lady Eagles volleyball team.

The Huntsville Eagles never found their footing or the end zone Friday night, suffering a 63-0 loss to the Elkins Elks. The Eagles are now 0-2 in 4A Region 1 and 0-5 overall. With the victory, Elkins boosted its conference record to 2-0 and is 5-0 overall. Elkins now trails only first-place Gentry in conference standings, with Huntsville falling to eighth place.

The Huntsville Eagles (0-4, 0-1) take on the Elkins Elks (4-0, 1-0) tonight at John Bunch Memorial Field in Elkins with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

The Eagles and Lady Eagles golfers participated in the district tournament Sept. 18-19 at Highlands Golf Course.

Work ethic and determination keep Huntsville High School Senior Logan Wallace dedicated to football and trap. Playing both sides of the ball, Wallace is left guard and defensive end for the Huntsville High School Eagles Varsity football team. When he is not playing the field, you can find him shooting trap for Huntsville High.

The Huntsville Eagles opened Friday night’s opening conference game against the Gentry Pioneers with a thrilling first-quarter drive that resulted in the team’s first touchdown of the season. Yet they could not hold onto the lead and dropped the contest, 47-8.

Nick Coulter, head coach of the Huntsville High School cross country team, said his runners “showed out” at the Elkins Invitational on Sept. 9 after a “rough” first meet on Sept. 2 at the Shiloh Saints Invitational in Springdale. However, the team is looking forward to participating in the Berryville Bobcat Back 40 Saturday.
