Vernon Randall Watkins, 64, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at home.
He was born Friday, June 20, 1958, in Fayetteville, to Vernon Dean and Rheua Edna Lyman Watkins.
Randy married Cindy Lou Smith on Friday, Oct. 17, 1980, at Lower Campground, and together they were parents to two children. He was a custodian for the Huntsville School District. An avid outdoorsman, Randy enjoyed fishing, hunting, and arrowhead hunting. Randy loved telling jokes and making others laugh. He had a great sense of humor. Randy’s greatest pride was his family, and he was well known for his big heart and love for others.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Rheua Watkins; and one brother-in-law, Larry Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Watkins, of the home; his son, Jeremey Watkins of Huntsville; his daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Richard Curtis; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Deana Watkins of Japton and Roger and Carmen Watkins of Huntsville; one sister and brother-in-law, DeAnna and Jimmy McElhaney of Aurora; and six grandchildren, Ty Watkins, Taci Watkins, Chase “Rooster” Watkins, Tripp Watkins, Adelynn Curtis, and Maxx Curtis. In addition, Randy is survived by his dear friend, Monty Hoskins, whom he considered a second son.
The family received friends 5 p.m.-7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at Brashears Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at Brashears Funeral Home with Craig Villines officiating.
Pallbearers will be Willie Haley, Charlie Haley, Chad Puryear, Ronnie Watkins, Monty Hoskins and Josh Murr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Easterling, Jerry Ledbetter, Carl Dean Thomas, Keith Watkins, PJ Ogden, Joe Lyman, Craig McCartney and Tim Stroud.
Interment will immediately follow services at Harwood Cemetery, Huntsville.
Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
