Thomas Roscoe Davenport, 88, of Fayetteville, passed peacefully in his sleep Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, at home.  

He was born Thursday, Aug. 4, 1932, in Asher, to Virgil Roscoe and Mary “Molly” Matilda Wheeler Davenport.

Tom married Dorothy Raye Hankins Davenport on Friday, March 18, 1955, at Durham and together they were parents to two children.  He was always mechanically inclined, a farmer, a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, and served as a charter member of the Round Mountain Fire Department board and a board member of the Pinnacle Cemetery board.  Tom never met a stranger, was known for his wonderful stories, and for telling the best jokes.  He was known for helping others, and enjoyed going to the senior center, and dancing at the community and senior centers. 

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Dorothy; six brothers, Raymond, Hayden, Harvey, Otis, Truman and Albert Davenport; and three sisters, Iva Gardener, Lucy Wideman and Opal Glenn.  

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Mary Davenport of Fayetteville; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Ted O’Neal of Elkins; his special friend, Sharon Lytle of Lowell; two sisters, Gennie Vivant Koury of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Mary McChristian of Blackwell, Okla.; six grandchildren, Jessica Omohundro and husband, Dwayne, Joey O’Neal, Rebekah O’Neal, Darin Boles, Ryan Boles, Melissa Irwin, and husband, Terry; and four great-grandchildren, Athan Irwin, Viola Boles, Ella Irwin and June Boles.

Funeral Services were held Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, at Round Mountain Community Church. 

Pallbearers were Dwayne Omohundro, Charles Glenn, Marshall Evans, Dale Riggins, John Wheeler and JD DeMotte.   

Honorary pallbearers were Bennie Hankins, George Hankins and Joey O’Neal. Interment followed at Pinnacle Cemetery, Elkins.  

Services were entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
