Sarah Elizabeth Swafford, 88, of Pettigrew, died Monday, July 12, 2021, at Johnson Regional Medical Center, Clarksville.
She was born Monday, July 25, 1932, in Robert’s Gap to Levi and Stella Cummins Criss.
Elizabeth married Robert Dempsey Swafford on Friday, March 9, 1951, in Moonhull, Ark., and together they were parents to eight children. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and cooking, and was well known for her famous fried pies. Elizabeth dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Dempsey Swafford; three sons, Bobby Swafford, Billy Swafford and Jack Swafford; her parents; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Missy Swafford of Crosses; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty Byers of Pettigrew, Rita and Rick Grigsby of Hunt, Louise and Jack Flaherty of Ozark and Cindy Shepard of Coal Hill; three brothers; two sisters; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Cave Mountain Cemetery, Larry Johnson officiated.
Pallbearers were Greg Ashlock, Scotty Ashlock, Tommy Flaherty, Jonathan Shepard, Bobby Joe Swafford, Wade Swafford and David Shepard.
Honorary pallbearers were Jack Flaherty, Rick Grigsby, Bucky Byers, Stacy Byers, Justin Chadwell, Cody Swafford, Karsen Flaherty and Bentley Flaherty.
Services were entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
