Melba Lee Sharp, 92, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab.

She was born Friday, July 25, 1930, near Cobb Creek, to Archie Lee and Daisy Irene Bell McCoy.

Melba married Jack Lafayette Sharp on Friday, Jan. 21, 1949, and together they were parents to one son.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Gideon’s Lady Auxiliary, and owned and operated Huntsville Hardware along with her husband, Jack, for many years.

After the loss of her family, Melba devoted herself to serving others. She was known for baking and sharing her cherry chocolate cakes and famous toffee bars that no one else could master. Her love of baking for others earned her the nickname, “The Cake Lady”. Melba enjoyed talking with her friends on the phone, visiting people in the nursing home, and sending greeting cards for every occasion. She loved her Sunday School class, was a loyal friend, and became a “grandma” to many. Melba loved to have fun and had a great sense of humor. She will be missed by numerous people who considered her their family.

Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; their son, Randall Wayne Sharp; her parents; and one granddaughter, Tonya Jo Sharp.

She is survived by her many special and close friends who are like family, David R. Duncan of Huntsville; three sisters-in-laws, Rita Sharp of Huntsville, Jean Sharp Hawley and Charlotte Sharp of Berryville; two cousins, Myrl Anne and Larry Burdett of Brea, Calif.; and Pat and Steve Coffman, of North Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews-in-law.

The family will receive friends 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, at Brashears Funeral Home.
