Melba Jean White, 98, of Huntsville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab. 

She was born Wednesday, Jan. 23, 1924, in Rock House, to William Washington and Virgie Hawkins McClain.

Melba married Ralph Franklin White on April 23, 1944, and together they were parents to five children. She was a Christian and led a life-long devotion to her faith. She loved and was devoted to her family. She had a quiet, gentle spirit, was a wonderful cook, and loved making beautiful quilts.

Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph White; one son, Cecil White; one daughter, Donna Jean White; her parents, William and Virgie McClain; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and seven siblings. She is survived by one son and daughter-in- law, Charles and Gwen White of Nob Hill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Walt Ames of Huntsville and Denise and Glenn Thomas of Huntsville; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, at Brashears Funeral Home. Glenn Thomas officiated. 

Pallbearers were Mark Ames, Walt Ames, Brandon Thomas, Kris Thomas, Jeremy White and Josh White. 

Interment immediately followed services at Marshall Cemetery. 

Services were entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
