Marion Edward Johnson went to his heavenly home Dec. 18, 2022, at the age of 92.

He was the oldest of 10 children born to Henry Haden and Ruth (Duncan) Johnson on Dec. 3, 1930.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Claudie Ferguson and Dorthey Hudson; and one brother, Curtis Johnson.

Marion is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Betty Carlene (Brown) Johnson; four children, Cindy (Jay) Gillespie of Fayetteville Ark., Cheryl (Scott) Porter of Weston, Mo., Randall Johnson of Fayetteville, Ark., and Rebecca (Shelby) Sisemore of Huntsville, Ark.; three granddaughters, Sarah (Eric) Molyneux, Laura Gillespie (fiancé Taylor Brown), Shea (Connor) Burris; one grandson, Andrew (Nichole) Gillespie; seven great-grandchildren, Weston, Jacelyn and Leni Molyneux, Harper and Clark Gillespie and Olivia and Maura Burris; sisters Joyce (Tommy) Hinkle, Francis (Michael) White and Bonnie (Tim) Endacott; brothers, Carl (Carolyn) Johnson, Doyle (Ima) Johnson and Odell Johnson.

Marion was a man of many talents: a carpenter, residential builder and a wood working craftsman.

Marion will be remembered for his love of God, family and music. His love for playing the fiddle lead to serving as President of the Arkansas Old Time Fiddlers Association. He was instrumental in getting the fiddle named as the Arkansas state instrument. He has a fiddle on display in the State Capitol in the case he designed and built.

Marion was known for making and repairing beautiful furniture, wood turning and carving. During the Bush Administration, Marion crafted the state bird, a mocking bird for the White House States Christmas tree.

Marion proudly served in the Korean War; he was awarded many medals including a Purple Heart.

He was a long-standing member, deacon and board member of the Harmony Baptist Church in Huntsville.

Yet, while we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing he has gained his eternal reward and will be waiting to meet us when our day is done.

Rest in peace Husband, Father and Papaw.
