James Delbert Laird, 70, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at OU Health, University of Oklahoma Medical Center, Oklahoma City. 

He was born Monday, Aug. 18, 1952, in Huntsville, to Arlis James and Laverne Darlene Eastep Laird.

James married Janice Clydene Wheeler on Saturday, Feb. 26, 1977, in Huntsville, Ark., and together they were parents to two children. 

An Astounding Grace Church member, he was a pipefitter by trade. Spending time outdoors, hunting, and fishing were James’ favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed listening to gospel music and watching his grandkids play baseball. He treasured time with his family and enjoyed spending time with them. 

James was preceded in death by mother, Laverne; his father and stepmother, Arlis and Velma Burk Laird; two brothers, Jerry Laird and Donald Burk; and his sister, Sandra Glenn. 

He is survived by his wife, Janice Laird, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Emily Laird of Huntsville, one daughter, Kristie Humble of Huntsville; six sisters and one brother-in-law, Dorothy Acuff of Huntsville, Elda Cousins of St. Paul, Martha Bell of Berryville, Debbie Laird of Hindsville, Patricia and James Harris of Nogo, and Carolyn Heflin of Dover; two brothers, Douglas Burk of Kingston and Jimmy Wheeler of Rogers; seven grandchildren, Connar “Peanut”, Gabby, Katie “Katie Bug”, JD “Jr”, Mac, Addie and Jazzy; several nieces and nephews, and many self-adopted grandchildren.

No services are scheduled at this time. 

Cremation is entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
