Ewellene Seals McConnell, 95, of Huntsville, passed away Friday, Oct. 14.

She was born May 10, 1927, at McConnell’s Chapel on a farm south of Huntsville to the late Ewell (Bug) and Alma Jackson Seals.

Ewellene attended school at McConnell’s Chapel in her early years and she later attended school in Huntsville.  She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1945.

After high school on Sept. 12, 1946, Ewellene married her husband, James P. McConnell.  They had over 58 years together before he preceded her in death on March 4, 2005.  Ewellene and James began their marriage on a farm near Aurora and they later moved to Huntsville where they spent their remaining years together on Parrott Drive.

Ewellene’s life reflected her love for God. She faithfully attended church every week.  She loved to sing and always participated in the choir where she would sing the alto part. Ewellene was a member of the Huntsville Freewill Baptist Church where she became famous for her delicious cinnamon rolls.

Ewellene’s life was a great example for the family as she loved and cared for them.  Holidays were a special time for the family when she would prepare a meal fit for a king.  She not only cared for her family but she cared for her neighbors and friends by preparing food for them and transporting them from place to place.  Ewellene loved to work in her garden.  Every year she would grow a vegetable garden and preserve much of what she grew. Ewellene also loved to fish. Her favorite outing was to go to Table Rock Lake and fish for black bass. She was a competitive fisherman and always tried to catch the most fish.

Ewellene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; and two sisters, Narene Parson and Annette Johnson.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Phil McConnell and Jill of Benton and Lanny McConnell and Lori of Huntsville; one sister, Lorene Faddis of Springdale; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
