Dr. Ivan Hugh Box, 89, of Huntsville died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, at Countryside Assisted Living.

He was born Saturday, Dec. 27, 1930, in Decatur to John Elvin and Margaret Singer Smith Box.

Ivan married Roberta Pearl Woodbridge on Sunday, Sept. 24, 1967, in Springdale and was father to four children. Ivan was a graduate of Springdale High School and the University of Arkansas College of Medicine. He proudly served his nation in the United States Army. Ivan was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a 60-plus year member of the Huntsville Lodge #364 Free and Accepted Masons. Ivan was extremely active in his community where he and his partner, Dr. Austin Smith, were instrumental in opening the Huntsville Memorial Hospital in 1960. In 1980, the hospital moved to a new location, and Meadowview Health and Rehab began in the old location. In his downtime, Ivan loved to play guitar, compose, and sing his own music. He also enjoyed farming, especially cutting hay.

Ivan was preceded in death by one daughter, Kristi Diane Box; his parents; and two brothers, John Elvin Box, Jr., and Lloyd Cleo Box. 

He is survived by his wife, Roberta, of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Lisa Box of Little Rock, Larry and Melinda Box of Tampa, Fla., Gary and Denise Box of Huntsville and John and Tara Box of Huntsville; nine grandchildren, Whitney Box, Tyler Box, Mallory Box, Zachary Box, Seth Box, Sam Box, Sarah Beth Box, Jillian Box and Jude Box; and two great-grandchildren Landon Foster and Olivia Foster.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, at Brashears Funeral Home with Jim Spurlock officiating. 

Pallbearers were Rick Cartmell, James Myers, Joe Shrum, Danny Johnson, Michael Eaton and Kay Coger. 

Interment followed at Huntsville Cemetery. 

Services were entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
