Charles Thurston Townsend Sr., 82, of Kingston, died Saturday, March 14, 2020, in Springdale.
He was born Wednesday, March 2, 1938, in Naples, Fla., to John and Carrie Cochran Townsend.
Charles was a lifetime minister and was devoted to his family. He also served his country in the U.S. Marines.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, by his wife, Fern, and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Tiffany and John McDaniel of Huntsville, and Tammy and Bobby Welsh of Kingston; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thurston and Mary Townsend Jr., of Fyffe, Ala., and Caleb Townsend of Kingston; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Cara Belle and James Pendry, Clayton, Ga., and Loretta Hyman of Auburndale, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, John Arthur “Dick” and Marlene Townsend of Lakeland, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Bradshaw Mountain Holiness Church, with Lonnie DuFrene officiating.
The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Rye Townsend, Charles Welsh, Dakota Welsh, Scott McDaniel and Devon McDaniel.
Interment will be held at a later date at Ortona Cemetery in Ortona, Fla.
Local services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
